3 wire appliance circuit off subpanel

How dangerous is it to run an old three wire appliance circuit off of a new subpanel used to replace the old box with fuses? The bare wire on the old three wire was fed from subpanel with a insulated conductor which landed on an isolated nutral buss bar. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
