I recall somewhere in the code it indicates, for circuits less than 100A, the 60-degree C column should be used when selecting conductor size. For example, if using a 60A circuit, you must use #4 versus #6 as under the 75-degree C column.

You are thinking of 110.14(C)(1). You are allowed to use the 75deg conductor below 100A if the equipment/terminations are rated for 75deg.

I agree with David in Post #2 but might add that the wiring method can play a role such as the requirement to terminate NM at the 60deg rating.

While covered by David's statement, must elaborate that devices at the load end may only have 60?C rating.
