Hello,
A recent thread prompted me to read (2020) 340.10 Uses Permitted for UF. A couple comments (50% tongue-in-cheek as to the poor wording):
1) What's the point of 340.10(4)? 340.10(3) permits the use of UF as wiring in dry locations. So we don't need the allowance to use it as NM cable. And if the intention is to add a restriction to its use in dry locations, so that UF is subject to requirements of Parts II and III of Article 334, then "dry locations" needs to be removed from 340.10(3). Otherwise I can stop reading at 340.10(3) and never need to look at Article 334.
2) Apparently UF is not permitted in damp locations, unless single conductor cables (2), a corrosive damp location (3), or supported by cable trays (6). That is, 340.10(3) lists "wet, dry, or corrosive locations," which omits damp locations.
Cheers, Wayne
