I have an install that requires adding more EMT to an existing uni strut rack. The gentleman I'm working with wants to put a mini strap on the existing 2", fasten another mini to the first and hang the new EMT under it.

I had him read this:

358.12 Uses Not Permitted.
EMT shall not be used under the following conditions:
(5) For the support of luminaires or other equipment except conduit bodies no larger than the largest trade size of the tubing.
Then this:

Equipment. A general term, including material, fittings, devices, appliances, luminaires, apparatus, machinery, and the like used as a part of, or in connection with, an electrical installation.
He things I'm nuts. Can EMT be used to support another EMT?

How many more runs? If it's enough to justify another trapeze, these Caddy "slick nuts" can often be put in the ends of the existing strut to hang another new piece of strut below. They're pretty narrow (about 3/4" wide). Maybe you have room?

Yes sir another trapeze in no problem. The gentleman that posed the question is very sharp and got me thinking.(always a problem)

And Bob, I was a little busy and didn't thank you for the 300.11(B).

So thanks.
