8-159- (348-12): Accept in Principle . Log #694
SUBMITIT, R: W. Creighton Schwan, Hayward,
RECOMMENDATION: In line 4, replace "fitting with:
"other termination of the run of EMT"
SUBSTANTIATION: It is assumed that the "fittings" referred to in
the present text are conduit bodies, capped elbows, and the like, but
not EMT couplings, which are defined in Article 100 as "fittings".
Obviously supports 3 ft on each side of each coupling are not necessary.
(If the Panel considers that they are, then the requirement for
support at least every ten feet is meaningless, and should be revised.)
PANEL ACTION. Accept in Principle
PANEL STATEMENT: Same as Proposal 8-162 (Log # 2237).
VOTE ON PANEL ACTION: Unanimously Affirmative.
8-160- (348-12): Accept in Principle
SUBMITER: CarroI Burmer, NEMA
RECOMMENDATION: Revise to read:
Electrical metallic tubing shall be installed as a complete system as
provided in Article 300 and shall be securely fastened in place.
Tubing shall be firmly fastened within 3 feet (914 mm) of each outlet
box, junction box, 'cabinet, or conduit body. Tubing shall be
supported at least every 10 feet (3.05 m).
SUBSTANTIATION: To provide consistent language for 348-12,
345-12, and 346-12. These three articles currently say the same thing,
but in different words. This proposal also adds conduit bodies and
deletes fittings. This language provides for securing the systematcritical points. Coupling support is assured by the third sentence.
critical points. Coupling support is assured by the third sentence.
The coupling provides an electrical function as part of the ground
return path. The interest in securing is not lock nuts, bushings, etc.
