Nowhere in your post did you mention if this was an MC install, or hard pipe w/J-boxes. They layout would be totally different for each, but the number of wires as I described would be the same for each.

There are 3-wire and 4-wire ways to wire three-way switches, depending on the juxtapositions of the switches, the supply, and the load.

If it was specified to be an all conduit/wire job with J-boxes with whips to fixtures, Then the travelers, hot, neutral, switchleg could be routed through the conduit from one switch location to the other.
