400 amp feed thru panel from panel A to panel A1 needs a Main CB?

So, Does it mater where the MOCPD is located? Can it be in the Service Equipment rather then in the first panel "A"?

Yes, it can be in the service eqpt. My question is, does panel A1 have 400a bus? If not, it would have to be protected for minimum ampacity. For convenience to isolate sub panels, mains are sometimes preferred, not required.

Thanks, Yes Panel A1 does have 400 amp busing.

The feeders are on the Load side of the main.

That is what I kept asking earlier. If they are on the load side of the main then they do no need ocp. No main breaker is needed in panel A1 if everything is properly sized for the 400 amp OCPD.
