This is how we do it here.

400 amp all in one is about $600. It has a 200A main breaker, 40 space panel and a 200A main breaker for another panel.

The second main breaker is not installed yet in this pic.

I don't have a pic but, the other method we use is a 400A meter/main that contains the meter socket and two 200A pullout disconnects. We then run our cable or conduit to the two 200A panels.

The meter/main can is locally manufactured, larger than the one pictured and cost about the same.

What panel is that? Did the $600 price tag include the second 200 AMP breaker? My local wholesaler has a price of just over $1000 for a M400-UG-APS-LC W/ 24/40 circuit load center w/ both breakers. I am installing a 10KW PV system for a small winery for their B&B and Main house. It currently has two meters and they want to go with just one so the solar covers the entire property. Also the current panel does not have enough space for the the 2 - 2 pole 30's for the solar or the 2 - 2 pole 20's that will be needed for the two small heat pumps to be installed. This will be my first 400 AMP panel to install. And it looks like I will have to add the overhead kit and go to a 3" riser.

This is a Cutler Hammer panel. The $600 includes the second $100 breaker.

Homeline and Seimans make the same basic panel for the same money. We can get all three brands at The Home Depot here.;)

Thanks, it is available at the Home Depot not far from here (but not the local one). Still need to find the overhead feed kit, Milbank has one (K4787-r) that may work. I saw that CH does list one but not sure if it is carried. I will go down today and see.
