Does anyone here have a nice picture of there guts of the 400 amp service. I am debating with the POCO that my job is finished when I have parelleled the feeders with the split lugs to the socket and connected my neutrals with a split lug to the neutral bar. All of my grounding is complete and I feel it is correct. They are telling me that I have not terminated my neutrals correctly. I can not figure out what the heck they are talking about. It doesnt seem like rocket science. I just would like to see some pics to give him to see what everyone else is doing.

What I have done is this. I've grounded my meter cabinet to the GEC and my 2 -200 amp disconnects to the Water grounds. On the load side of the meter I have my 2 legs ran from the split bolts parelleled going to the disconnects. Also, I have my neutrals ran from the meter on a split bolt to each disconnect. This is what is in question. Then in the disconnects, I have SER ran from each disconnect to the load centers. This is supplying 2 legs to each panel + the neutral and the equipment ground for the subpaneled loadcenters. I will admit I dont see how POCO will tie in their line side nuetral but I dont see what ive done wrong. What is the proper way to terminate my neutrals in the meter so that it is done properly without having parellelled grounding. I feel what I have done is correct. Someone please prove me wrong so I dont have to look like a jack *** :D

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

Chris, I'm not sure I follow your install. Did you use the "Line" side neutral lug for one of your "load" neutrals? If so, I see why they aren't happy!

There should be a double-lug kit available to give you two places to terminate both neutrals to the "Load" side of the meter.

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

I have a double lug on the neutral already. When the poco came to hook it up they said they didnt have a place to tie their neutral. There is only 1 neutral screw for to double lug to tie into (Line and Load is same screw). Is there a triple lug that I need to get so the poco can tie in also?

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

What kind of equipment are the entrance conductors supposed to be connecting to?

I don't get it.

Is it a meter socket? Why is there only one place to land any neutrals?

I think I would understand the utility throwing their hands in the air if there's no place to connect.

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

Well, this is the first time I've had to use one of their 400 amp meter bases. It comes equipt with screws where the split lugs are to connect. I am to use the split lugs and proceed with the installation. What I dont get is why there is only one screw to split 1 line side and 2 load side neutrals. What the heck do they want. Surely not a triple lug of sorts? And where would i find it. Something is just not right. I seems they would have there own neutral location for the line side as well. But no, just one location. Im lost, but its their meter and they are asking me to fix it.

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

Which Utility Company is this ? If it's the one I work for, They usually have 2 threaded posts for the line & load side neutral connections.
You use a double lug on the load side, & they will squeeze a 1 hole paddle onto their service neutral & bolt to the line side post.
There may be something missing ???

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

well, if there is only one place to terminate the neutrals, I guess a triple-lug would have to be used.

or

Maybe the meter is not designed to accept more than 1 set of "Load" wires???

Do you know the Brand & Model # of the meter base?

Chris, you mentioned "Split Bolts" are you referring to the double lugs? I don't understand why you would need to use split bolts for a new meter.

To me a "Double Lug" would have 2 places to terminate wires with it's threads inside of it.
A "split bolt" is like a bolt with a slot down the middle, and the threads are on the outside.
It's used to splice 2 wires together or to "Tap".

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

Hey megawatt, I dont know why I just didnt ask you. It is KU. They just have one " screw for the line and the load". Its kinda thrown me for a loop. I see where there is a grouning screw next to it, but that is it. In earlier posts I meant to say Duble lugs, not split bolts. Im losing it. :D I'll send a picture of the box im referring to. I have to figure out how to post the pic. Can i post a pic without making it a hyperlink. Does anyoneknow how? Thanks

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

You'll need web space to store your picture I belive. George puts his someplace called "photobucket" or something. If you right click on one of his images you can get info from there. That's as much as I can tell you.

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

I just went here and registered for free. However, the page where I assume I'll be able to store images wont load so far?

Sam and Chris:

Click the link that Sam just posted.

Click on "My Album". That sends you to the page where you can create sub-albums, load pictures, etc. :)

Re: 400 amp service drawings or diagrams

Larry, do you have web space or is that image just stored in a file on your machine?

Sam click on the link you just posted? :D

Now that I can get the bucket open let's see if I can get an image up.
