Installing a 400 amp underground to a residential carriage house. From 400 amp meter to 400 amp disconnect; load side to transfer switch of generator located at carriage house. Load side transfer switch homeowner wants to tap off with 60 amp panel for carriage house. Would I just install 60 amp main in panel tapping off transfer switch lugs? From transfer switch 400 amps to main house (80'). Existing is 2 1/2" PVC underground with 4/0 AL 3 wire. Would like to either pull wire out and use existing conduit or run new conduit in parallel to existing. Not sure whether this is possible. If unable to do, I can install new underground conduit with new conductors. What size of GEC? The carriage house and main house have gas and water pipes connecting them underground. The water main is in main house, do i need to run from main house continuously to 400 disconnect in carriage house with GEC or can I use water entrance at carriage house? What size?
When I come into main house, I would like to replace (2) existing panels with (2) new 200 amp panels. Do I need to go to a tap box with (2) 200 amp disconnects and then to panels or can I just tap to each panel and install main breaker panels?
Homeowner is providing generator and transfer switch. Money is not really an issue, but it could be. I have several different design ideas, but it would be nice to have other opinions. Thanks.
