I'll be installing a new 400A 120/240 single phase service in a few days using parallel sets of #250 Aluminum in 2" IMC. I haven't looked at the 400A meter bases yet that the POCO can/will provide. Are most 400A meter bases provided with lugs rated for 2 each #250 Alum per phase & N? If the one offered by the POCO isn't rated for parallel alum conductors, is there a 400A single phase meter base that any of you guys recommend that isn't too expensive? I think the ones available from the POCO are the bypass type.

I want to come off the bottom of the 400A meter base to feed 2 each 200A MCB N-3R panels, feeding each panel with one set of #250 Aluminum.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

the 400 amp services I have installed have all been CT types and do not require a bypass. There are 320 bases that comew that way. A 400 meter base may or may not come with lugs. If not just add your own 2 hole lugs to the bussing.

Locally the 400 amp (320 amp) meter bases are the stud type and POCO provides lugs as needed.

The 400 amp meter bases that we use for residential work have double lugs on the bottom and are rated for 250 KCM. Of course not all meter bases are created equal. The meter base we use are called 400 amps but they sold as 320 amp bases. I never understood why because they don't sell the 200 amp meter bases at the continuous load rating.

All meter bases here at 201amps and above are required to be CT type meters. if they are providing you an acutal 400 amp base i agree with one of the previouse posts. us back to back crimp lugs.
