For practical application, paragraph 2 can be acomplished by keeping the start switch on the ungrounded side of the contactor coil. Although it is best to add a fuse on the control side too for the protection against a ground fault, is it necessary or shall I say required to fuse it?

What if the control voltage comes from a separate transformer that is already fused?

Overcurrent protection of the control circuit is required per 430.72.

If the control circuit is supplied from a transformer that is not tapped from the motor branch circuit and ground fault protective device, the overcurrent protection must comply with 725.23 if Class 1, or Tables 11A or 11B in Chapter 9, if Class 2 or Class 3.
