Please let me clarify my previous entry on receptacles.

I have been ask to drop out of a 60 amp disconnect with two SO pigtails. Both with 55-amp twist lock receptacles on them.
Added, the receptacle amps are 110, but the loads will not run at the same time and they run around 30 amps each. My wire will be rated for 60 amps and I will use 50 amp fuses.

New Lugs rated for two conductors to replace the ones on the disconnect would be great if I could find them. Distribution blocks would work well but I did not want to add any more boxes unless I had to.

Question 1) Even though I am protected at 50 amps does this arrangement comply with the code?

Question 2) If compliant, what is the best way to tap these wires.

Tapp needs to be done with as lug suitable for 2 wires like a 2 barrell type which are easily obtainable. I see no problem with this install . Ive seen it done many times to accomodate2 different welders or a powcon welder and a small plasma cutter. As long as your load is really not more than a total connected of 60 amps then you are not exceeding eithe the branch circuit capcity or the disconnect capacity.Just my humble opinion but I dont see a problem.Just have to prove to the inspector that their would never be a time when a larger load would be attached in combination

I do not see any reason you can not supply two 55 amp twist lock receptacles from one set of 50 amp fuses.

For lugs try www.idealindustries.com or www.ilsco.com

I do question the use of pigtails.

What is the need for pigtails?

I would use receptacles in boxes unless I could find a specific code reference that allows the permanent connection of cord for this application.

210.50 General.
Receptacle outlets shall be installed as specified in 210.52 through 210.63.

(B) Cord Connections. A receptacle outlet shall be installed wherever flexible cords with attachment plugs are used. Where flexible cords are permitted to be permanently connected, receptacles shall be permitted to be omitted for such cords.
