Today at work We installed 4-30 amp 480votl 3-phase receptacles for some

trailers. They are feed off a 100 amp breaker. We ran #2 to an outside gutter

that was mounted right above the receptacles. From the gutter we tapped off

the #2 with 1 split bolt per a phase with 1-#2 and 4-#10. Used rubber tape and

33 on top of that. I know this is not code compliant, but the guy running our

shop says to install it that way so i did. We are on an island, kodiak alaska,

and it not very easy to get parts here. What would have been the correct

way to tap into that #2? I have one more question, If I am just replacing

something that is existing, like a panel change out, Do you still need an

inspection? My boss tells me no, but I am not to sure that is correct.

there is the link to what we installed. Look at page 13.

Unless there are some overcurrent protection devices installed that is both a violation and unsafe.

The 30 amp receptacles have to be protected at 30 amps or less.

You could tap the feeder to supply 30 amp fused disconnects that would supply each receptacle.

If someone tries to plug a 30 amp cord with a fault into a 100 amp 480 supply it is going to get very ugly, I suspect the persons hand could be burned.
