I would be using 480 or 277 if available. You can never ever just trim off strands. And if i was inspecting your job and seen that trick i will be spending a few hours giving your job a what ever inspection.

Well I would flag your garbage disposal and check your other handy work, (if I was an inspector lol)

Why do you think i did not pull a permit LOL
And if my pig got caught i would fix it. And still might fix it as i know it is wrong.


Is a problem created when you cut strands. Lets say you cut off 4 strands, now tell me how the cut off ones make connection to the others ??????????????? Now do you see a problem ??

I think it is a safe, economical, and effective solution. I also think it is not code compliant. It may well be a better solution than any of the code legal ones.
 
Most inspectors will red tag it. I will agree it would likely work. But is a violation for several reasons. If your inspector is ok with it then go for it. Your name goes on the job.
