Re: 4X4X4 holeless PVC Junction Boxes

The biggest problem I see is heat hense the meyers hub to help dissipate the heat and make the opening water tight.

Re: 4X4X4 holeless PVC Junction Boxes

Did a lot of these boxes attached the 4 legs with the brass screws furnished with the boxs and to strenghten the lids we put a octagon cover that comes with a pre-made ko hole inside the box by a man it has lasted on 8 poles 2 foot off the ground as a mount for twin gfcis and light fixture identical to what you ask. Been checked and approved by local authority. They even remarked they liked the beefing up with the octagon cover inside the pvc box lid

Good Luck

You can use conduit (PVC) with "rocket posts". They are open on the bottom, just 90 your pipe into them. Make sure all your splices are above-grade, I use the waterproof wire nuts (by King) when using anything open bottomed. Would be a much cleaner installation than what you are proposing.

Here is one that I have used, any supply house will have something similiar:

Re: 4X4X4 holeless PVC Junction Boxes

Are the fixtures heavy? If so the cover may break. The only problem I see is being called back because a lawnmower slammed into the fixture. How about rocketposts {as L.P suggested}I've used em, they work great.

Re: 4X4X4 holeless PVC Junction Boxes

They are all in a flowerbed and the fixtures are the little single 1/2" screw-on type landscape lights by RAB. Really light weight.

Re: 4X4X4 holeless PVC Junction Boxes

I spoke with my inspector today regarding placing 1'2" screw-on RAB outdoor lights on the lids of these boxes, and he stated No, because it makes the box not liquidtight. Is this a code violation or is he making this up. Every hole I make in the box will take away from the liquidtightness.

Re: 4X4X4 holeless PVC Junction Boxes

If all openings made are above grade then where does liquid tite fit in?? rocket posts are listed as a functinal J Box and a 1/2 in fitting is listed as ok to be used as attacchment. So in esence a rocket post is nothing but a hand hole.
Feed by uf or pipe still code compliant ;)

Re: 4X4X4 holeless PVC Junction Boxes

Its a done deal, I can't use rocket posts at this point. I am trying to determine if the inspector is off his rocker or am I. Thanks. :D

Re: 4X4X4 holeless PVC Junction Boxes

O by the way I mean watertight not liquidtite, as in the boxes will leak water if the RAB light is placed on the cover. Won't all the holes I cut do this? Also, I am feeding other circuits through this conduit, so rocket posts would not work would they?
