50% of rated mains

i received a violation for having a circuit breaker larger than 50% of the rated mains. Do you know if this is a code requirement or a manufacturers requirement? I cant locate it in my codebook

You can have a 200 amp breaker in a 200 amp service panel. There's no 50 % rule

Unless your breaker exceeds the maximum branch breaker the panel is rated for. :-?

Could be a "my town' rule.

If the mains is rated for 100 Amps, there is no code requirement against using a 50% rated distribution breaker.

The violation can be cited if this breaker were to in a panel where max distribution breaker size is less than this (50 A).

If the issue is anything else please clarify or ask the inspector what NEC code is violated.
