500 amp breaker upstream of another 500 amp?

We have an existing 500amp breaker service disconnect inside a building (correctly sized for the loads). We want to install a new service disconnect outside the building upstream of that. Can we use another 500 amp breaker disconnect to avoid upgrading the wiring to the existing disconnect?

Sure you can. But you will need to relocate the N-G bond to the outdoor disconnect, and include an EGC in the cable to the inside disconnect.

When you do this, don't you have to relocate the GES at the outside disconnect also?
