50amp v 60amp

MFG calls for a 50 amp circuit breaker Vehicle charging cord, is 60 amp allowed. 210.21 says that it has to be the same size as I read it, is there anything that changes this. It is a 6awg less than 150 feet.

I suggest looking at the ampacity numbers for the wiring method in use.
 
I think he is refering to Table 210.21 where a 50 amp circuit should have a 50 amp receptacle. The charger info states 50 amp overcurrent protective device but the cord is 60 amp.

Does the cord have a 50 amp cord cap? or are you assuming 60 amps because the wire is #6?
 
Are we talking about a receptacle? If so a single 60 amp receptacle is permitted on a 50 amp circuit
 
No mention of any receptacle.

The way I read it, he has an EVSE and the manufacturer specifies a 50A breaker. He wants to know if he can use a 60A breaker. Maybe the 60 is already existing, who knows?

I think the answer is “No”.

(B) Receptacles.
(1) Single Receptacle on an Individual Branch Circuit. A
single receptacle installed on an individual branch circuit shall
have an ampere rating not less than that of the branch circuit.

I didn't see any mention of receptacles in the OP that's why I asked. It could be as retirede mentioned sans receptacle.
 
So two possible scenarios:

1) no receptacle; manufacturer specifies 50A breaker.

2) A single 14-50 receptacle.

A 60 amp breaker is a violation in either case.
