On Friday, 13th, of all days, my wife got me a colonoscopy for a Valentines day present. Cant wait till Christmas :happysad: any way. When they wheel me into the procedure room one of the first things I noticed, being a sick electrician, was that the monitor was plugged into a emergency system, dedicated ground GFCI receptacle in the ceiling. By the look of the room laying on my side it looked as if the ceiling was 9-10 ft. and the closet sink from the monitor was 10-12 ft. I am not well versed in Article 517 but why a GFCI in the ceiling and what about the "accessible" part. If the GFCI were to trip a ladder would have to be brought in to reset it. If the monitor goes out you don't want to lay around and wait for the reruns.

Curtis, I would say it was probably just overkill by an engineer or hospital maintenance, IOWs, a CYA installation. If the room was used for something else in the past there may be another reason for it, I did a group of Dialysis rooms once where the engineers design had every receptacle GFCI protected regardless of where it was in the room.

Have you read the Dave Barry column about colonoscopys? It's a hoot.

Your wife gave you a good present BTW. I'm up for one next year and I'm sure my wife won't let it slip my mind.
