In Oklahoma we've had legal marijuana grow houses for about 6 years, and many of them are in very rural areas for security reasons (security by obscurity, I think). Outside of city limits, in most counties of Oklahoma, there is no requirement for inspections of trades work (electrical and other trades). There are no inspectors to even inspect such work, except 5 or 6 inspectors who cover the whole state and mainly focus on buildings that would have more serious consequences if there was a fire or other disaster caused by poor craftsmanship. So over the past couple of years, the state fire marshal has started to require that a licensed electrician certify that the electrical installation meets all applicable codes, once per year, for every grow facility.

I've done a few of these, and from what I've seen, there's usually no specific care taken to keep receptacles free from dust or water spray inside these grow rooms. However, I have also rarely seen a need for such protection. I did a little research, reading parts of article 547, and I see that certain agricultural areas would require weather resistant wiring methods. However, from what I've seen, I don't think a marijuana grow room would require that. But I'm not completely certain that the state fire marshal feels the same way about that.

Anybody familiar with this want to share how it is done in your area? Where does your AHJ require GFCI protection in a grow facility? Where do they require weather resistant wet-location boxes?

I performed many marijuana grow facilities. No electrical equipment was installed directly in the grow areas.
No wet or damp requirements were needed.

I don't think 547 applies. Read carefully 547.1.
That was my opinion too: it doesn't apply. It only applies to areas with excessive dust, dust with water, or corrosive atmosphere. I haven't seen those conditions in a marijuana grow house. The grow rooms aren't really even damp. Maybe they would be sometimes in an actual greenhouse, but the areas I have worked in are completely indoors and the humidity is very regulated.

No electrical equipment was installed directly in the grow areas.
How can you have no electrical equipment in the grow areas? Lights, fans, and dehumidifiers are all in grow areas in the ones I have looked at. Lights sometimes touching the tops of the plants, fans setting just inches away or actually touching the plants, receptacles within 2 to 4 feet, etc.
