#6 NMB

It is strange that you can find #6 NM CU easily, but #8 CU SER isn't easy to find. Less copper for the same ampacity for what the NM would commonly be used.
 
I would ask why anyone would use copper SER when aluminum is available.🤣
With smaller vans now and the off chance we can't run AL, its just easier to stock CU for 6AWG and smaller.
And if the terminations don't allow AL the cost of the proper AL/Cu tap blocks + a larger box to hold them eats up any savings I might have on a typical residential run.

Exactly. I like the Polaris taps, but they are more expensive than they should be IMO.

For #6 I use the screw type Burndy connectors. They cost about $1.50. Sure you have to insulate them, but tape or heat shrink is cheap.
