I remember reading before about door swing playing into the 6' rule. Basicly if a door openned 90 degrees you could measure off the end of the door if it onpenned more than 90 degrees you had to measure from the hinge. If anybody knows what article this is under please let me know I can't find it.

Re: 6' rule

Article 550-8-d Exception #3. [This is in the 1999 Code]
This is my favorite Code artcle since it is clear, lucid and understandable. However it only applies to mobile homes.

Re: 6' rule

Nice catch Peter. But just to make sure it is clear, there is no exception in standard residential construction. I know guys who don't believe it but you start measuring at the door frame. Alot of people use the term "Useable wall space". You won't find that in the NEC.

Re: 6' rule

It is remarkable--I remember hearing "useable wall space" starting out, and was pretty stinkin' surprised when I read the code. :)

Looks like that could be the source:
NEC-2005 550.13(G). Receptacle Outlets Not Required. (2) In the wall space behind doors that can be opened fully against a wall surface
Learn something new every day! Strangely, nobody I know has ever wired a mobile home... :D
