The Name plate on a Samsung Range is 14kw 240v.The paper works says 50 amp cord .Shouldnt the circuit be 60 amp rated on a 60 amp breaker? I'm missing something.
Paper works says 50 amp cord. The circuit can be fed with #8 and a dp 40 amp ocpd
Good catch I missed the cord part. :slaphead:
Since they don't make a 40 amp cord set for a range it would have to be a 50 amp.
40 amp vs 50 amp cordset just means 8 AWG conductors vs 6 AWG conductors, both still have a 50 amp cord cap on them.
Go to a big box store, appliance store, or other place that sells these and look at the labeling. If it is marketed as a 40 amp cord it has 8 AWG conductors if it is marketed as a 50 amp cord it has 6 AWG conductors. Both may have smaller neutral and EGC though.Show me.![]()
I tried to provide Iwire a link and started by looking at home depot site, but as you can see they don't provide those kinds of details, but I have noticed this in the past that the cords marketed as 40 amps will usually have 8 AWG conductors and those marketed as a 50 amp cord will have 6 AWG conductors for at least the ungrounded conductors, they may have smaller neutral and equipment grounding conductors. They call this 40 amp range cord but I don't know what size conductors are used.
Lowe's links do not specify conductor sizes, the Amazon links however do and they are sized as I have mentioned before.
