I looked to see if there was this question already so I apologize because I couldn't find it.
Florida just adapted 2020 cycle so still learning (with my Mike Holt "Changes to the NEC" book)
Art. 625.54 requires GFCI protection for all receptacles installed for the connection of EVSE. The way I read this is, if it is a hard wired unit GFCI is not required.

I believe that is correct unless you run into 210.8(F), i.e. it is outside and 50A or less. And then you need GFCI protection, and your EVSE probably doesn't provide it. (Although we can have a knock-down drag-out fight about whether theoretically it could provide it.)
