is the max water level the deck or can it be a
pipe system that prevents the water from exceeding a certain level. The pipe system has floats and pump but also has a failsafe where water will flow out a tee when level rises.

Sounds like an engineering issue. If your system is designed so the water will overflow into said pipe and is big enough to handle that flow, than could possibley count that as max. water level...Is the high water alram above or below this overflow pipe?
Better be below it!

Re: 680.2 max water level

I have seen alot of pools, but I am on the East Coast, so probably not as many as some from warmer climates... that being said, I have not seen any piping systems for water level control. I would say that it would be a design issue as well.

Is this a design issue or a requirement?

Is it a safety hazzard if the water overflows the pool rim?

Re: 680.2 max water level

ive seen this problem with a couple "neverending" swimming pools i hooked up. even though the water fell over an entire section of the pool into a collecting pool i decided just to make the deck as the max level for saftey sake. even a stationary hurricane probably couldnt produce enough rain to abruptly overflow the pool, it was better safe then sorry. my biggest concern out of anything was the fact that the tube for the float that controls the water level is always right next to the pumps or compool panel's etc...

my personaly opinion, call your local inspector and ask what he would like to see. maybe he can give you some more insight.
