680.26(B)(1)(b) Copper Conductor Grid

Hello,

Has anyone had to construct a Copper Conductor Grid required in Art. 680.26(B)(1)(a)? It looks like a lot of work. It almost seems like rebar should be allowed.

680.26(B)(1)(a) does permit the rebar to be used as the bonding grid, unless it is epoxy coated to make the outer surface non-conductive.
 
The section is talking about concrete pools in general, there would be no steel wall in that type of pool.
 
I ordered a roll of copper #8 solid grid with 12" x 12" squares in 2-feet wide for perimeter bonding around a pool in 2005 when the Code first had the new 680.26 requirement. It came from Harger grounding products. Just rolled it out and cut it at the corners of the pool. Connected the end cuts with DB burndies.

Now the industry thinks a single #8 provides protection. Well it does not.

That section does not apply pools with non-conductive walls. There is no bonding required for non-conductive walls. You will have to bond the water and any perimeter surfaces.
