I am running a 240v 40 amp 800' feeder circuit from a 200 amp 8/16 Main Panel to a 4/8 panel at the end of the dock (600' dock). My question is; does feeder require GFCI protection ? How will it hold ? I'm using 1/0 AL to compensate for the 5% drop.

GFP is required per. 555.3.
Depending on your Code cycle and acceptance of a '17 TIA, 100ma GFP might be allowed although 30ma is specified in the '17

Do you think that if there was a panel at the beginning of the dock using a 30mA breaker would hold the 600' run ?
