I am working in a building that has a 911 call center in the building because of this we are installing ups and generator backup systems , My question is there a requirement by code that life safe branch circuits and emergency branch circuits have to be installed in conduit.

I went through 700 and 701 real quickly, but I did not find any such requirement.

700.10 Wiring, Emergency System.
(B) Wiring. Wiring of two or more emergency circuits supplied
from the same source shall be permitted in the same
raceway, cable, box, or cabinet. Wiring from an emergency
source or emergency source distribution overcurrent protection
to emergency loads shall be kept entirely independent of
all other wiring and equipment, unless otherwise permitted in
(1) through (5)
II. Circuit Wiring
701.10 Wiring Legally Required Standby Systems. The
legally required standby system wiring shall be permitted to
occupy the same raceways, cables, boxes, and cabinets with
other general wiring.

Just make sure that the job specs don't require compliance with Article 708. Some designers of 911 centers specify compliance with Article 708.

708 is Critical Operations Power Systems (COPS) clever hey? It has some of the most stringent wiring methods and design criteria you'll find in the NEC
If not a 708 application, the wiring method needs to be per the area classification and within the uses allowed for the wiring method.
If the UPS and generator is a 700 system, then all the emergency wiring must be completely separate from non emergency wiring.
The type of standby system is determined by building codes, the electrical code tells you how to wire.
