What can I expect with a 32 GB Solid State HD installed in a Dell 630?

How does it work and can I expect better service along with the Windows XP instead of Vista?

What equipment do you use to present your seminars?

Joe,

I think you are confusing some terms.

The Dell 630 have SATA drives, that is Serial ATA a standard real-spinning hard-drive(HDD), not a Solid State Drive. Solid State Drives have a far more limited read-write lifetime than HDD's. I do not believe that you can install an operating system on a Solid State Drive, but I could be wrong.

ATA is the formal name of the IDE drives (Integrated Drive Electronics) A hardware interface widely used to connect hard disks, optical discs and tape drives to a PC. Introduced in 1986 with 20MB of storage, capacities increased a thousandfold in less than two decades. Compared to the SCSI interface, IDE has been the more economical choice.

Evidently it is a less advertised option that IS available from Dell. $860 for 32GB?! Sheesh....

It costs 10 times as much as a larger regular hard-drive. Lots of complaints from users. Unless you are a gamer you would have very little practical advantage.
