A/C disconnect

I was at a Job and the nameplate rating on the outdoor unit was 25 A Fuse or Circuit breaker. well they dont make the convenient equipment discconect in 25A...its always 30 or 60... what we have to put there is a 60A non fuse disconnect... SO my question is... is it okay to put a DP 25A breaker at the main panel run 10/2 to the equipment disconnect and go into the 60 A non fuse disconnects we have?

ok, thats what i thought, yea I really didnt even know that before now, there townhouses but I always thought it was just kind of standard for all of them unless there super huge... 30A 10/2... guess not thanks for the reply

As an apprentice you should learn the proper way to size conductors and overcurrent protection devices for AC units. They are a little different than the usual 15 and 20 amp circuits that are typically run for lighting and receptacles. The unit in question may be permitted to use #14 conductors.

With respect to the data plate's "minimum circuit ampacity" and "maximium fuse or breaker size" listings:

"Wire to the min, breaker to the max."

That's the mantra for wiring ac's.

You can still use a 30 amp disconnect and just fuse it at 25 amps, feed it with the 10/2 and a 30 amp breaker.

Though as one of the other posts said you may not even need #10

A 60 amp pullout is about $10 , fast to install. You need to look at the min. supply amps to pick the wire size 310.16
One word of caution, you often do not know what unit they will be putting in.I would rather be a size too big on 99 out of 100 than get caught on one that i am undersized on.With copper prices you might want to think this out. Also the new 13 seer will take even less.

How do you fuse it at 25 amps with a non fused pull out and install a 30 amp breaker????

Where did he say it was a non-fused disconnect?

And I also agree with jimw I had just started here and went to do finals on a condo complex had #10 run to all the A/Cs minimum required for all of them was #8. That was an expensive fix.
