Bob (iwire) submitted his work for discussion over at the ECN forum, and he does good work, IMO. :)

I haven't had much of a humility check for the past week or so, so I figured I'd play along.

Here's the panel I stripped out today. Get those rocks ready...

Click on the images for larger photos. Sorry, they're a bit blurry, my airbrushing went awry. :p

And the service:

Re: A few panels minus two

Nice job George. Is that a box mounting bar suporting the wires above the panel? That can't be legal. :D

Re: A few panels minus two

That bushing on the romex connector where the SER comes in is a new one on me. I've never in my entire life seen a bushing used on a sheathed cable of any sort. Is this a personal choice, or is there some foundation in the code for this? I thought that the typical two screw NM style connector was considered self bushed?

It is not required by the NEC, either George is just diligent or they have a local amendment.

Re: A few panels minus two

According to 300.4(F), a bushing is not required. What's interesting is that in the handbook commentary (I keep an '02 handbook in my house, and I know it's just someone's opinion!) they say that this applies to all wiring methods.

George I have enlarged the picture and played with the contrast I can't find it.

My WAG is the breakers are the wrong size based on your hint.

Is it the extra wires you have sneaking in with the SE cable in the main disconnect - (pix #3)? - which appears to be 2 #6s.

Is that a violation? That's a valid question.

I (obviously) don't think it hurts anything, but am curious if someone had something to cite for that.

mpd, I am learning. There is no easier way to remember what you're learning than to post pictures of your work and let people rip you apart for it. ;)

I don't think you are hurting anything either.

But...

300.15 Boxes, Conduit Bodies, or Fittings ? Where Required.
A box shall be installed at each outlet and switch point for concealed knob-and-tube wiring.

Fittings and connectors shall be used only with the specific wiring methods for which they are designed and listed.

I do not see the point of you being here.

Imagine the horror, an electrical message board discussing electrical stuff. Wow.

Are you saying this is not the violation you were talking about?

I can barely see anything in the 2nd pic..unless of course you like blur/fuzz/grain :)

I'll look again if this is not the violation you were talking about.
