20' light poles in a water retention/park area. They installed them almost flush with grade and after a few years the pole base rusted and the poles fell over.

I used rod couplings and 1" x 36" threaded rod to extend the anchor bolts and built a little rebar cage around it. I rerouted the PVC to a masonry box and secured it thru the sonotube.

I used the "emt inside the pvc" trick to protect the wires from the sawsall.

I hope it worked. I will be setting the poles Friday.

Looks good to me; I like the extensions on the bolts.

I used the "emt inside the pvc" trick to protect the wires from the sawsall.
"That's right, 99! I used the old 'EMT-inside-the-PVC' trick!"

I hope it worked. I will be setting the poles Friday.
We'll keep our fingers and toes crossed for you.

It's damp and rainy in the Garden State and you guys are wearing shorts to work! That's ok though, I'll be in Sarasota next week.
Nice repair on the pole base. I recently had a similar situation, but your solution wouldn't have worked this time. I dug it out and poured a new base. I'll keep your idea in mind for the next one.

I'm confused, how are the second and third photo's related?

It's the same pole base. He just put on threaded couplers onto the original base's anchor bolts and extended them with allthread.

is the box gonna be buried in the concrete?

Looks to me like it's right against the sonotube, so it will be accessible. May need to chip a bit o' crete away, and maybe grind the side of the base down to make it flat for a blank cover, but looks OK to me.

They are in the same retention/park area

Two different bases. One has conduits in and out. Good catch

By the way, what's playing on the ipod?

Phone earpiece. It seems like someone always calls when my hands are full.

Will you ever forgive me for calling you a hack?

Someone please tell Peter that he is dead to me.

I thought about a concrete bonder but in this case I decided it wasn't necessary. I just hosed off the existing and poured over it. I thought there would be enough weight and steel to hold it tight. No freezing issues here.

I do own a vibrator but never use it. I use a softball bat to beat the crap out of the sonotube all the way around a few times, and I used a sawsall (sans blade) to vibrate under/around the jbox.
