I have a question regarding the use of Photoelectric smoke detectors in a dwelling unit. I was told that a Photoelectric smoke detector should be installed within ten feet from the kitchen stove. Is that true? NFPA 72 describes two types of photoelectric detectors. Photoelectric light obstruction smoke detectors and Photoelectric light-scattering smoke detectors. Which type should I use in the kitchen area? Is it required to use Photoelectric smoke detectors in any other location in a dwelling unit? I'm still looking for the answer in the NFPA 72 text. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you for your time and effort.
