Abbreviations are an ANSI standard. Unless the drawing set you are using specifcally lists abbreviations you are to use, then the default is ANSI standard Y1.1.

Agencies having input to this standard include: NECA, NEMA, IEEE, IES, ASME, AIA, as well as many others.

This is the industry standard.
