Funny, over the years I've wired many inground pools with all the fun of bonding and controls etc. I'm familiar and competent with that but now I have a friend that needs help wiring a basic 18' round above ground pool. Since I've never wired one, I don't know what to expect. Any codes, info or experiences I should be made aware of? I'm going in blind on a Sunday to wire it so any advice would be apreciated.

That cord looks lot longer than 3 feet and cant see if its a twist lock or not. Also is it 10 feet away ?

Jim, the cord is way to long, and it is a twist-lock so it can be 5' MIN away from the pool, I just found those pics by the way... not sure who did the work...

How about protecting the pool bonding conductor?
In our neck of the woods, the PVC for the switch and receptacle would require an expansion coupling for ground movement, unles the receptacle is supplied by direct burial and the PVC is only for protection, emerging from grade.

Is that a cord for underwater lighting I see in one of the photos? How is that supplied?

You better hold off on that beer just yet... ;)

Maybe the helping friend thing won't be so bad with the beer and girl

I still having issues with my friends install.Looked at it saturday night and the factory cord is about 4 feet long. Will not hook up untill next sat.Warned him i might hard wire it.

Why the expansion coupling? You dont think that 4x4 is going to move with that pvc? I highly doubt its deeper than 18" in the ground...

Just remember I only found these pictures online...

Will be plenty of beer ,music, food and girls in the nude, so i dont mind doing this job.Whats of big concern is that its 100 % to code and safe.If driving a rod would increase safety i will but thinking it not help.Regardless of how its hooked up i demand a gfci.I have not checked the papers on this yet but am thinking it is an installers cord.

whats that other plug in the background ?
is that a storeable pool pump ?
why wouldn't you use a 2 gang box for sw/recpt
keep it ten ft away and not use twistlocs
i wouldn't want to look at that in my yard.....

Other plug is for Low voltage light, why its 5' off the ground I have no idea.

Aren't all pool pumps storeable if they are not hard wired?

I would probably have used a 2 gang myself...

If you keep it 10' away that means the filter is 10 feet away, that might not look any better than what your already looking at....

What is the requirement for protecting the bonding conductor?

I would say that the pvc and the post will move with the ground together.
