I know this must have been discuss several times before but can't find exact info.

We are asked to provide a circuit for pool pump to an above ground pool.
20 amp circ. We will run this in PVC from house to a 4X4 post with switch and twist lock.
680.26 states al metal parts of pool shall be bonded with #8 solid copper. Since we are using a #12 grnd with circ. Where do we connect the #8?
and would one point of connection to the pool be sufficient. As you can tell I don't do many pools. Side note: customer said can't you just put an outlet there and not worry about a permit and inspection?
After I explained that her kids will be swimming in this pool and the cost of a permit is cheap insurance she had to agree.

Re: above ground pool

The #8 is used to bond all the metal parts of the pool, ladder, diving board, etc. to ensure that they are all at the same potential. There is usually a lug on the motor to which this bonding conductor is also attached. There is no requirement that it be run back to the panel or attached to the ground wire that you have feeding the receptacle. Since the motor is connected to the grounding conductor run with the hot conductors, and the #8 bond wire is connected to the lug on the motor, then indirectly the pool bonding is reference to the electrical system ground. However the main purpose of the #8 wire is BONDING, not Grounding.
