I just got off the phone with a supplier. He told me that AC cable and MC cable are both at the same price (for the last two months). AC fittings are approximately 1/3 the price of MC fittings.

He thinks that manufacturers are trying to price MC cable so that they can stop manufacturing AC cable. That is an interesting thought.
I wonder if they succeed in not having to manufacture AC cable, will the price of MC cable than go up?

I am surprised that they are the same price. Copper prices have skyrocketed in the past year or two. You would think that the copper cost would make MC cable more expensive. My guess is that as MC becomes more popular the demand for AC keeps decreasing therefore the supply houses would rather only stock MC cable. Sounds like the price of AC has been inflated to dissuade people from using it.

From an installers standpoint I prefer AC cable. For two wire circuits with MC there are 50% more terminations at every junction box, panel etc. On a large commercial job there can be a significant labor cost savings over using MC cable.

"MC Smart" was what the product was called during the development stage. The product you are referring to is available now, but it is called MCAP. It just became available this year.

Also Infinity, MCAP will eliminate the need to make up all those grounds.

I hope this helps.[/i]
