Why is my ac unit on a 60A disconnect when the breaker is rated at 40?

Discos are sized 30 amp, 60 amp and 100 amps, etc

If the unit needs more than 30 amps than a 60 amp disconnect is needed.

Do you actually mean the disconnect or the breaker in the disconnect?

A disconnect is also sized by 115% ( I think) of the FLA of the unit.

60a disco. The main breaker is 40a for ac and 50 for heat I think

I think ur right but I can’t find a 1 1/4 hp in the Flc table

You don't need to look at the table. Just look at the nameplate rating on the unit.

The only thing that matters is that the OCPD is correct. All else can be bigger. 60A discos are the most common, which means cheapest.
