I need some information on how to design a security system and the design requirments, can anybody recommend a website or books..
thank you all

Unfortunately, that's like asking how do I design a house. You should certainly cruise the technical information side of the various manufacturers' web sites, but those are more about the tools, not the design.

The first question is always "What does the client think of as 'security'?" To some it's a simple burglar alarm, to another it requires motion detectors above the drop-ceiling and time-of-day controls on the access card readers.

Design elements will include (not limited to..)-
number and type of doors (door construction, egress, entry, etc)
overall building construction
will the sytem call a central station? phone or phone & radio backup?
must it monitor a fire alarm panel?
number and type of access card readers
etc

Are you an engineering consultant? I would turn to my local product reps. They will be glad to offer you advice. Mind you, that advice will almost always include their product, but that's just the name of the game. Make a few phone calls, maybe e-mail some pdf's of your floor plans to some reps...get their opinions.

Just remember to sift through what they tell you to get to the real truth (i.e. performance specification instead of product specification) on how it should be designed.

I'm a new Electrical Engineer and I work with Electrical Contractor but I'm looking to move to a design firm and wanted to be ready and be more proficient with security systems
