Is it required to install a DC disconnect in ground mount if neither the inverter nor the string combiner is placed by the array?

I have been told by a couple of installers that the NEC code requires it, but I have not be able to find the specific reference to it in the code book myself. The only sections that talk about DC disconnect:
  • NEC 609.9 (D) Overcurrent Protection - Photovoltaic Source and Output Circuits
  • NEC 609.15(A) Utility interactive inverters mounted in not readily accessible locations
  • NEC 609.16(B) Servicing fuses
do not seem to suggest the need to have a disconnecting means physically located by the array.

Can anyone point to a specific section in the NEC code book that necessitates such a need?

690.13 (E)

690.13 (E)

look at the last sentence of 690.13 (E) 2014 NEC

Are you referring to this:

"A PV disconnecting means shall not be required at the PV module or array location."

So that means, we definitely do not have to buy an additional DC disconnect for this project.

Thank you!
