Advertising is tough is any biz

Advertising is tough is any biz

The thing with advertising is that people may not even know exactly how or why they called you.

For example they might pick up the yellow pages and then see a familiar name and then call that #. They might have seen one of your trucks but used the yellow pages to get the #

Your name has to get known and that sometimes that takes time and $

I actually make sales calls as a part of my job and we have 18-29 electricians doing re-hab, re-model, service changes and working for individuals. I call on General Contractors, builders etc.

Oh yeah I forgot one that Jimmy just reminded me about.

I wouldn't call any GC's for the same reason someone stated earlier, but management companies that take care of rentals and apartment buildings are always looking for guys to do service work. I may not be big jobs, but my thought is a bunch of little jobs gets your name out there way faster than one big job will.

I've picked up a few jobs from wrong numbers along the way. I once got a call from someone looking for "Jeff's Electric," which is a different EC. They wound up hiring me.

the 3 questions in advertising

the 3 questions in advertising

1. Who am I?
2. What do I do?
3. What do I want to do?

When one answers those 3 questions he will basically have the answers to where and how to get work.
Who am I... I am a shy guy who can not do a face to face... I am a gutsy guy that wants to suceed at any cost... and anything else you might want to say about yourself... How much work can I take on, what size jobs am I good at.....
What do I do.. Am I residential, am I commercial, am I a control guy.....
And what do I want to do.... Do I want to own 100 man company, do I want to work 3 days a week.....

When you put together a basic business plan (those $75.00 ones are great) you will get an insight into the direction you are heading. After you determine the direction then the answers are a lot clearer of where to look for work.
You have to know where you are going with a map. Advertising is only a small part of that trip.

AND Marketing is not advertising... that is something different all together....
