Aerial cable to the meter socket

I'm relocating the service on a building and will be running aerial service cable from a pole.
Can the aerial service cable pass on through the weatherhead, down the conduit, and into the meter socket or does it need to end at the weatherhead and connect to separate conductors coming up from the meter socket ?
 
That part above the point of attachment is not covered by the NEC. It doesn't say if it should be spiced or not. As long as the ariel is sized correct. I see no problem with it. The only benefit to splicing would be that you could use smaller cables in the air.
