Forgive me fellas,. for what I am about to do,... I am about to install an Individual branch circuit feeding an outlet for a little , old lady's air conditioner,.. and I intend to commit a violation of the Sacred Scratchings. It is purely based on the cost,.. her panel is pushmatic and she is poor... and quite frankly,.. so am I .. there will be no AFCI.

I am prepared fellas, for any act of contrition you so dispose upon me ...just not sit ups ,...I hate doing sit ups.. and oh yeah I can only do about 40 push ups in a row ,... and my knees don't allow for running any longer ,.. reading perhaps??,.. 210.12,... say 100 times ???

Son, I don't have to forgive you, you are a saint!!! You will go directly to heaven, you are going to do the most humanitarian thing installing the AC without AFIC. God bless you

You go boy!!!!!! AFCI in that situation would be a waste of $$$$$$ IMHO. New construction if we must but not on old additions. I'm just amasied that my mother was able to surive to be 86 years old. Without a cell phone too!!!!!!

Just locate the plug in the kitchen, laundry, bath, garage, unfinished basement, or outside and have her run 300' of extension cord to the AC.

Actually the "Sacred Scratchings" would not require a replacement of the Pushmatic. . You could 2pole Pushmatic a feeder to a sub and put an AFCI in the sub.

But I see your conscience is already heavily burdened and I don't want to push you "over the edge". . It isn't any fun pushing a person "over the edge" when you're not there to watch and enjoy it. :D

M.D. Depending on which code your state adopted you might not have violated anything. If I inspectrd it I would have said good job and meets NEC standards

The old lady was LUCY wasnt it ? We know why you did it so letting it slide this time.
Actually why didnt you have her buy a 240 volt unit and then been fine.

Big deal. All the new 120v a/c I have seen come with afci protection on the plug. From examples I have seen the "reasoning" for afci protection was people sitting tables and night stands on cords causing nicks. Don't think it will happen with the a/c cord.

OK ,my mistake but would rather see a gfci and believe it would do the same job and even better.
