AFCI failure and esperiences

I just had a service call where an AFCI breaker was tripping and always had when the recessed lights were turned on. Works normally with some CFL lights, ceiling fans, and convenience outlets on and being used. Recessed cans are fine with no lamps--install an incandescent lamp in the can lights and the AFCI trips instantly---????

My AFCI tripping is still happening with can lights. I switched breakers to check. I isolated the sockets from the cans, inspected all the wiring---there is no definitive pattern to the issue less no bulbs=no trip. However, I can screw the bulbs in and almost always maintain power then while the lights are on with bulbs screwed in and on, flip the switch off then on=instant trip.?????? This was a remodel of a bonus room to a bedroom.

Try replacing the switch. Old devices sometimes have loose wiring or bad contacts. I replace all old devices on new afci circuits and make up pigtails instead of feeding through devices.
