I know they're required since 2002 in all residential bedrooms but I'm not entirely sure what the rational is behind this requirement.

When I bought a new house 3 years ago, they seemed to trip every time someone sneezed. Have they improved from a nuisance trip point of view?

Thanks,

Mike

To improve the position of the stockholders.

I can't say for sure....NJ still hasn't accepted them.

you probably got some of that bad batch from square d.

but i will say to this day i really havent had a problem with them. alot of the good'ol boys down here tend to listen more to hearsay then reason so at least as far as florida is concerned most people still believe cieling fans dont work on them and you cant wire anything in a bathroom on them etc.

funny cause i wire bathroom lighting into them quite often and god knows how many fans in bedrooms i have put up on them and i dont think ive been back at all ever dealing with any complaint.

only problem i have with them is the kids cant seem to grasp the concept that when you push the recep in at trim you must make sure the ground wire doesnt push forward onto the neutral screw. but thats a defective helper not a defective breaker.

When first introduced yes there were problems but that is the same with all new products. As long as the rough guys don`t cut into the NM and the trim guys watch the bare ground when installing devices there really isn`t an issue. Do they do what they are intended to do time and polls as well as research will tell.

Tripping is mostly due to be improperly wired.
On the forum we had a seperate topic for AFCI's, have not seen an AFCI question for months and months.
There were some defective HomeLines from Sq D

Hello, Mike from another MA guy.

I've never had one complaint about nuisance tripping from the Cutler Hammer type BR AFCI's since they've been required, FWIW.

I have heard about the square D problems, though.
