I have a nursing home I am working on. We are doing only a small renovation on the resident rooms.
The facility is over 50 years old and of course back then they used one neutral for 3 circuits (ABC-1N). Today's NEC code calls for these rooms to have AFCI protected outlets in the rooms.
My question is: Can I just replace every receptacle outlet in the room with an AFCI receptacle and utilize only the line side of the plug. Joints pigtailed in the box and only the hot and neutral landing on the line side of the AFCI outlet.
Every outlet in the room will be a line sided wired AFCI receptacle.
Any help would be appreciated.
thank you
