I have run into a code violation that needs to be fixed.[don't you just love the family jobs?] The bedroom circuits were run with 14/3, with a shared neutral. Is there any way, besides having the walls torn into, to make an AFCI work? Thanks for the help!

Re: AFCI

The only thing that I can think of is discontinue use of one of the ungrounded conductors. That is, at the point where the 14/3 terminates and begins to serve two circuits, combine the two. Treat the 14/3 as a single homerun of 14/2.

Re: AFCI

Where does the 14-3 originate? If it is a single circuit that is split at the switch so that you have split receptacles, the AFCI will work fine with the 3rd wire. :D

Re: AFCI

At least one manufacturer makes a 2 pole AFCI suitable for use with a common grounded conductor.
