What I was reading in somebody's literature was an arc threshold of 50 amps. Could be that some AFCI's were 50 amps originally and UL changed to 75 amps because the 50 amp threshold was too sensitive. Some ordinary circuit breakers have shorter time delays than what UL allows so I would not be surprised.

I was also reading that the equipment ground fault protection was 50 mA, not 30 mA as with class B GFCI protection.

I have reconditioned and a installed older room air conditioners that were say 6 amps 240 volts 8,000 BTU per hour nameplate rating. This would work out to about 2/3 HP which qualifies for 240 volts in dwellings.
