So I'd run a 10-3 UF on a 20A 2-pole breaker out to the barn. Forget the panel, forget the grounding electrodes (throw them in if you'd like).

If TeeJay's barn owner is anything like a central NY barn owner, he's better off with the subpanel and house upgrade (if needed). I don't know a horse owner yet who thinks s/he has enough barns, and you just know there's going to be another one uphill of that horse stable some day. It might be better to have an adequate expansion port in place now, all other things being equal.

Besides, horse owners are used to writing big checks. ;)

Yes, but sometimes after writing those big checks to the Vet and Feed Store, there isn't anything left for anyone else.

Yep, My X wife decided she wanted to be a cowgirl....... I'm still paying those bills....... :)

Yep, My X rated wife decided she wanted to be a cowgirl..

At first glance that is how I saw above quote. I had horses once upon a time. I had to give them away, cause I couldn't afford the expense.

I live in the Great American Desert, the grass is usually dead if not irrigated. Right now, the 6 acre pasture the horses have is green, with weeds. They're starting to seed. My dad wants to slap me for not buying a tractor with a brush-hog and mowing them down.

The land outside the pasture has tall stands of grass, choking sunlight to the roots, so this year's growth isn't coming up. It's lingering at the base of the dead stuff, but for the most part, no dice.

The outer 70 acres is in the government CRP program, where they pay me to not grow things on the land I am ill-equipped to farm. When the land passes out of the program in 2008, I plan on fencing the entire 76 acres in, and let the horses do the mowing. :)

Here's some more pictures of Lacy (we didn't name her-inventive name for a paint).

I wouldn't consider him a friend, if he rode me like that.

Notice that his feet is not moving. Mr. Paco will give his head better than any horse I have ever sit on but we have a problem getting his feet to move.

Mr. Paco is so lazy that he will stand a look at his feed bucket if you sit it five feet in front of him.
My wife has spoiled him. When we first got him she would hold his bucket for him to eat and now he expects me to do the same.
I figure that he will get hungry enough to take the two steps to the bucket or he will starve.

I truly love my dear old friend Mr. Paco cause be are both alike, lazy and ugly too.

Edited to add

To get back on subject of the original post, Why not set a new service at the barn?
